Questions Dublin homeowners ask
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Dublin?
A typical made-to-measure family kitchen with a quartz worktop costs €15,000 to €25,000 fitted, VAT included. A budget kitchen is €5,000 to €10,000 fully installed, and luxury kitchens start around €25,000. A respray of your existing doors costs €700 to €3,000.
Is a kitchen remodel the same as a kitchen renovation?
Yes. Both mean replacing the units, doors and worktop, and sometimes moving the layout. A refresh or makeover keeps the units and changes only the doors, paint or worktop.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
Fitting takes 3 to 5 days, and a whole project 2 to 3 weeks, or 4 to 6 weeks for bespoke. A made-to-measure kitchen is fitted about 12 weeks after you sign off the design. A respray takes 1 to 3 days.
Do I need planning permission for a kitchen extension in Dublin?
Not for a rear extension of up to 45 square metres, counting earlier extensions, if it meets the conditions: no higher than the house, and at least 25 square metres of private open space left. The limit rose from 40 to 45 square metres under the 2026 exempted development rules. Dublin's four councils apply the same national rules.
Do Dublin kitchen prices include VAT?
Ask for it on the quote, in writing. The family-kitchen range above includes VAT. Revenue taxes the supply and installation of a fixture at the reduced rate, subject to the two-thirds rule, and supply-only fixtures at the standard rate.
Will the house be a mess?
For about a week. The old kitchen comes out, the new one goes in, and a stone worktop is fitted a week or two after the units. Ask the company how they protect floors and where the skip goes.
Is the work guaranteed?
Ask for the guarantee in writing before you agree a price: units, doors, hinges, worktop and workmanship. Electrical work comes with a registered electrician's completion certificate.
What happens after I send the form?
We pass your request to one kitchen company that works in your part of Dublin. They ring you within one working day to talk about the job and arrange to measure. One company, not a list, and nothing is booked until you say yes.
How long does a full Dublin kitchen rip-out and refit take from start to finish?
A straightforward cabinet, worktop, and appliance swap takes 5 to 8 working days on site; if you are knocking the dining wall, moving plumbing and first-fix electrics, skimming walls, and templating quartz, allow 3 to 4 weeks.
How long does quartz templating and fitting add to a kitchen timeline?
The stone mason laser-templates the day your base units are fixed and levelled, and the cut quartz slabs with undermount sink and hob cut-outs are delivered and bonded 5 to 7 working days later.
Do I need Dublin City Council or suburban council permission to knock the kitchen-dining wall?
Internal wall removal does not require planning permission unless the house is a Protected Structure, but a structural engineer must size the RSJ steel beam and padstones and sign an Opinion on Compliance for when you sell.
Can I keep my existing kitchen carcasses and just replace the doors and worktops?
Yes, provided the 18 mm carcasses are dry, square, and firmly fixed. A door, hinge, end-panel, and worktop makeover typically costs €2,800 to €5,800 fitted and finishes in 2 to 3 days.
What electrical upgrades are usually needed for a modern induction hob and twin ovens?
A 7.4 kW induction hob and separate pyrolytic oven plus combi-oven typically need a dedicated 32 A or 45 A radial circuit in 6 mm² or 10 mm² cable back to a modern RCD-protected board, certified by a Safe Electric electrician.
How do Dublin terraced houses handle skip permits and parking during a kitchen rip-out?
On inner-suburb streets with pay-and-display or permit parking, contractors either book a council skip permit in advance or use a wait-and-load caged van at the end of day one so the street is kept clear.
